I am starting a new business and I would like to know which accounting software is recommended?
I've been reading these "God awful" reviews on QuickBooks Pro 2007 on Amazon (how you have to buy each software package when it's time to "upgrade", horrible overseas tech support, having salespeople harass you, etc.) and how you get pop-ups that you can't disable to purchase their products. Are there anything that is just as good as QBs? I don't want to be quick to judge as I've never used an Accounting software before, but I'm seeing all the signs that says not to buy it. Thanks!

I'm an accountant and part of my job is helping clients to choose the best accounting software for their needs. For small businesses I use Sage, MYOB, Microsoft Office Accounting, QuickBooks and KashFlow. The choice depends on the features clients need e.g. stock control and/or multi-currency and what, if any, accounting experience they have. However, many start-up businesses don't know what they'll need so KashFlow is a good option for them to begin with and they can move on to something bigger further down the line if need be without having wasted lots of money or many hours of training. As KashFlow is an online system it is very easy for me to help clients if they need me to. The basic version of Microsoft Accounting can be downloaded free so that is worth a look too. Whatever software you choose, make sure that your accountant is familiar with it.
